1. A water surface photovoltaic power plant at Jidong Oilfield was connected to the grid recently in Tangshan, north China's Hebei. The project can generate 54.13 million kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to a CO2 emission cut of about 45,900 tonnes per year.
2. China's Comprehensive Research Facility for Fusion Technology (CRAFT), a platform on which engineers develop and test key components for Fusion Energy reactors, has achieved 70% completion and is expected to be finished in 2025 in Hefei, east China's Anhui Province.
3. At the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, Wang Zhiwu, President of Huawei's Digital Energy Charging Network, made a prediction that the number of electric vehicles in China will increase by 10 times in the next 10 years, resulting in a need for 8 times more charging capacity. Huawei aims to complete the construction of at least 100,000 supercharging stations across the country this year.
4. Wu Kai, the chief scientist of CATL, recently spoke at the China International Battery Fair (CIBF2024). He stated that CATL's current level of technology and manufacturing maturity, rated on a scale of 1-9, is at level 4 in their all-solid-state battery research and development. Wu Kai also mentioned that CATL's goal is to improve this rating to level 7-8 by 2027. This would enable the production of all-solid-state batteries in small batches.
5. A private jet linked to Tesla CEO Elon Musk landed in Beijing on Sunday, a flight tracking app showed, as two people with knowledge of the matter said the billionaire was kicking off a surprise visit to the automaker's second-biggest market. Musk is seeking to meet senior Chinese officials in Beijing to discuss the rollout of Full-Self Driving (FSD) software in China and to obtain approval to transfer data collected in the country abroad to train algorithms for its autonomous driving technologies, one of the people said.
6. China Petroleum Engineering & Construction (Group) Corporation and SEPCO, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China, have recently signed agreements with Saudi Aramco to participate in the third phase of the oil giant's gas network expansion project in Saudi Arabia. CPECC has won the bid for the EPC general contracting contract for the first section, worth US$1.699 billion, making it the largest oil and gas EPC contract won by a Chinese-funded enterprise in the Saudi market. On the other hand, SEPCO has won the bid for the EPC general contracting contract for the second section, which has a contract value of US$1.5 billion.
7. German carmaker BMW announced an additional investment of ¥20 billion (about $2.81 billion) in its production base in China's Shenyang.

Chinese scientists have achieved a breakthrough in research on high-performance fiber batteries that can not only store energy but also power personal electronic devices such as smartphones and watches. Researchers from Fudan University in east China's Shanghai have designed samples of leather and canvas bags that look no different from ordinary ones but are embedded with the flexible fiber batteries. Jiang Haibo, a researcher on the team, said such a bag can wirelessly top up a mobile phone battery's charge by 20 to 30% in half an hour.
10. Industrial firms with an annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan ($2.82 million) saw their combined profits reach up to 1.51 trillion yuan in Q1 2024, up 4.3% YoY, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
