1. Nuclear power generation on the Chinese mainland reached 440,000 gigawatt-hours in 2023, accounting for nearly 5% of total national electricity output, according to the China Atomic Energy Authority.
2. Tesla said on Tuesday it would introduce "new models" by early 2025 using its current platforms and production lines as it retreated from more ambitious plans to produce an all-new model that had been expected to cost $25,000.
3. China's NEA said the nation's cumulative installed PV capacity reached 660 GW at the end of March. In the first three months of this year, the country added 45.74 GW of new PV systems, with 9.02 GW deployed in March alone. By comparison, China deployed just 33.66 GW of new PV capacity in the first quarter of 2023.
4. Tianqi Lithium fell the exchange-imposed 10% limit today after the Chinese lithium mining firm reported its profit fell into red due to plunging sales prices and shrinking earnings of its Chilean subsidiary SQM. Tianqi expects to log a net loss of up to CNY4.3 billion (USD593 million) in the first quarter, compared with a net profit of CNY4.9 billion (USD673 million) a year ago.
5. Trina Solar said its n-type i-TOPCon solar module for applications in large-scale PV projects reached an output of 740.6 W. Germany's TÜV SUD has confirmed the results. The company said the result is a new world record for TOPCon solar modules and a groundbreaking achievement of its State Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology.
6. China delivered a new record-breaking dual-fuel very large ethane carrier (VLEC) with the world's largest capacity of 99,000 cubic meters in Shanghai on Mon. The 230-m-long ship boasts low fuel consumption and can be used to carry multiple types of liquefied gases.
7. Xiaomi is considering to release an e-SUV as the Chinese handset giant's second car model in the first half of next year and roll out the third one priced around CNY150,000 (USD20,700) in 2026, 36Kr reported yesterday, citing industrial insiders.

According to China Energy Storage Allliance(CNESA), in March 2024, 26 companies in China disclosed battery project plans, with a total production capacity of more than 233.53GWh and an investment of more than 98.716 billion yuan, a MoM decrease of 4.68%. The total production capacity of energy storage batteries reached 92.98GWh, a MoM decrease of 47.64%. The technical route involves the use of lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and flow batteries.
9. Aito, an electric car collaboration between China's Huawei Technologies and carmaker Seres Group, has debuted the new edition of its M5 series. The New M5 has a higher-level intelligent driving system with laser radar and upgraded seats, audio equipment, and chassis control, Huawei announced at a launch event in Beijing yesterday. It starts at CNY249,800 (USD34,475), the same price as the prior version, it added.
10. Labeling China's new energy industry as suffering from overcapacity is a manifestation of protectionism, according to Wang Wenbin, China's foreign ministry spokesperson on Wednesday, in response to a question about the matter. Wang said that China's rapid development in the energy sector follows economic laws and market principles, and is not the result of subsidies.
