CNOOC Ltd.,a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corp.,has commenced production at the Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field 13-3 Block Development Project in the Yinggehai Basin,South China Sea.This marks the company’s ninth offshore project startup in China for 2025.The project operates in waters averaging 67 meters deep and is designed to reach a daily capacity of approximately 35 million cubic feet by 2026.
According to CNOOC Ltd.:“The project is the first high-temperature,high-pressure,low-permeability natural gas project offshore China.”It involves six wells and utilizes existing infrastructure from the Dongfang gas fields, integrated with a new unmanned wellhead platform. The company noted:“The existing facilities are used to connect the Dongfang 1-1 gas field and Dongfang 13-2 gas field.CNOOC Limited has thereby successfully established an integrated offshore gas production network in the Yinggehai Basin.”This setup supports a stable natural gas supply, contributing to economic growth in Guangdong,Hong Kong, and Hainan.
In a separate development,CNOOC Ltd.recently launched Phase I of the Kenli 10-2 Oilfields Development Project in the Bohai Sea,with an average water depth of 20 meters.Described as the largest shallow lithological oilfield offshore China,it is expected to reach a peak production of 19,400 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2026.The project, wholly owned by CNOOC Ltd.,includes 79 wells:33 for cold recovery,24 for thermal recovery,21 for water injection, and one water source well.
CNOOC Ltd.stated:“Kenli 10-2 Oilfield is the first lithological oilfield with proved in-place volume of 100 million tons discovered in the shallow depression zone of the Bohai Bay Basin.”The project employs a combined approach of conventional water injection, steam huff and puff, and steam flooding to optimize oil extraction. The platform, equipped with over 240 sets of key equipment, integrates cold and thermal recovery systems, making it the first large-scale thermal recovery platform for heavy oil in the southern Bohai Sea.
Throughout 2025,CNOOC Ltd.has activated three projects in the Bohai Sea,including the Caofeidian 6-4 field adjustment,Phase II of the Luda 5-2 North field, and the Bozhong 26-6 field. In the South China Sea,four additional projects were launched:Wenchang 19-1 field Phase II,Dongfang 29-1 field,Panyu 11-12/10-1/10-2 Oilfield Adjustment Joint Development Project, and Weizhou 5-3 field. These initiatives enhance energy production and support regional development.
