The ride-hailing committee under the China Urban Public Transport Association (CUPTA) issued a statement on Wednesday, saying that the unverified message claiming "Beijing will completely ban fuel-powered vehicles from ride-hailing platforms" is being removed, and apologized for the confusion it caused.
The briefing published on Tuesday seen the official WeChat account of the ride-hailing committee included a reposted report claiming that "Beijing will completely ban fuel-powered vehicles from ride-hailing platforms."
As the information had not been verified by authoritative departments, it misled the public and has since been removed, said the statement now seen on the organization's WeChat account on Wednesday morning.
The statement also noted that the responsible editor for "the piece of misinformation" has been held accountable, and the committee vowed to strengthen the review process for information published on its official account.
The organization expressed appreciation for the supervision and feedback from all sectors of society and it will adopt a more rigorous approach in their work to provide the public with more professional and reliable services, said the statement.
On Tuesday, a post by the ride-hailing committee seen on its official WeChat account said that all ride-hailing platforms in the capital city of Beijing have completely stopped accepting new fossil fuel-powered vehicle registrations since July 20, 2025.
The Beijing municipal government issued a document on April 17, 2024, to promote overall new-energy vehicles use in the capital city's public transport sector. On February 18 this year, Beijing issued over 20 measures to enhance green economy development, including the construction of 1,000 super charger stations.
