China Energy Engineering Investment Corporation (CEEIC) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Invest Sarawak to develop a 2GW new energy project in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. The collaboration aims to meet Sarawak’s growing energy needs by delivering the largest renewable energy, storage and grid infrastructure initiative in the Southeast Asian region to date.
Under the agreement, CEEIC will lead the phased development of solar power and other green energy sources, coupled with advanced energy storage systems and grid upgrades. The project is in line with CEEIC’s global strategy to provide cutting-edge sustainable energy solutions, with a focus on tailoring infrastructure to Sarawak’s unique economic and environmental goals. By accelerating the deployment of renewable assets, the company aims to drive Sarawak’s transition to a low-carbon economy and set a regional benchmark for green growth.
“This partnership underscores our commitment to fostering international cooperation on clean energy,” said a CEEIC spokesperson. “By integrating solar and storage technologies with grid upgrades, we will provide reliable, affordable electricity while supporting Sarawak’s sustainability ambitions.”
The initiative, which marks CEEIC’s latest foray into the Southeast Asian renewable energy market, is expected to position Sarawak as a leader in ASEAN’s energy transition. Phased project implementation will begin in the coming months, with a focus on creating replicable models for sustainable development across the region.
